Suburban house for 3-generation family with rice drying yard on the upper floor

The suburban house is designed for a 3-generation family. To ensure the preservation of agriculture, the rooftop is used to dry rice and local agricultural products.

In Soc Son, a suburban district of Hanoi, agricultural land is gradually shrinking with the development of the local economy. Urban and industrial projects have reduced agricultural areas, farmers lack land for cultivation. Farmers have to dry rice right on the highway, which affects traffic safety and the farmers themselves.

The house has 3 generations with different occupations such as business, farming, and fishing. Therefore, when designing the house, the homeowner asked the architect to harmonize between family members, occupations, and ages to ensure a living space with full amenities while still ensuring harmonious architecture in the countryside.

The house consists of 5 separate blocks, connected by corridors.

The house is built on a large plot of land, surrounded by many open sides.

The house facade faces south to catch the cool breeze, blocks of different heights create shade when it's sunny, but still have enough light and wind for each space.

The house has full functions including kitchen, living room, bedroom, storage room, bathroom, etc.

The first floor of the house is raised quite high, avoiding moisture from the ground and animals such as snakes, rats, etc.

The house is surrounded by a green garden with many local trees such as grapefruit, star fruit, etc.

Under the green canopy is a play area for children to play on the grass. Some other areas are used to raise chickens, rabbits, birds, etc.

The entire roof is used to dry agricultural products and family farm products. Rainwater flows down into the tank to water the plants.
