Increased compression of concrete by CO2.

CarbonCure Technologies, based in Nova Scotia, Eastern Canada, has given the global concrete manufacturer the opportunity to use and recycle carbon dioxide waste to improve the efficiency of the environment, Material and economics. Not only CO2 gas is converted to solids in concrete but CO2 addition improves the compressive strength of concrete. This allows the concrete manufacturer to achieve the required performance, while reducing the amount of cement, which saves the cost to the manufacturer.

CO2 is collected from industrial emission equipment before being refined, stored and distributed to concrete producers. The tanks are brought to concrete plants where CarbonCure technology will spray liquid CO2 into the truck or mixer. Liquid CO2 introduced into wet concrete reacts chemically with calcium ions released from cement to produce nano-sized calcium carbon particles, permanently present in concrete. The nanoparticles reacted by crystalline crystal mechanism to increase the strength by 10-20%.

The use of CarbonCure technology in concrete plants is a process similar to the addition of chemical additives. The concrete manufacturer connects the CO2 tank with the CarbonCure injection system, adjusting the amount of CO2 present in the concrete when mixing. After spraying, liquid CO2 will turn into a mixture of carbon dioxide and then react with cement hydrate to produce solid calcium carbon particles.

CarbonCure technology provides customers with environmental and economic benefits. The company will continue to grow its customer base from over 50 existing facilities and foster relationships with its global strategic partners. CarbonCure has demonstrated that this technology can allow a typical concrete manufacturer to reduce at least 500 tons of CO2 annually. If the technology is used globally, the concrete industry can reduce CO2 emissions by more than 700 million tonnes a year.
